Racking Based Mezzanine

A rack based mezzanine floor is a raised storage level built directly on pallet racking frames. Unlike a free-standing mezzanine, where an independent structure supports the floor, this system uses the racking itself as the structural columns. This makes it the most cost-effective way to add floor space while also gaining high-density storage below.

Pallet Racking Mezzanines are widely used in warehouses, distribution centres, and industrial facilities to maximise vertical space. They allow operators to combine high-density pallet storage with an additional floor level that can be used for small parts storage, shelving, light assembly, or office space.

BENEFITS OF A PALLET RACKING MEZZANINE

N

Dual Functionality

Pallet racking forms the structural base, giving you two benefits in one: efficient pallet storage below and usable floor space above.

N

Cost Advantage

Rack based mezzanines are cost effective and efficient to install. The racking doubles as both storage and structure, keeping material and installation costs down.

N

Scalable & Reconfigurable

Move, add, extend or reconfigure as your storage needs evolve. The modular racking base makes future changes simpler.

Maximise Space with the Strength of Racking

Our Rack Supported Mezzanines are engineered to maximise vertical space while maintaining safety and compliance. Designed in accordance with Australian Standards, these systems combine pallet racking below with a raised floor above, giving you the dual benefit of storage and workspace in one structure.

Safety first: Each design incorporates essential features such as sprinklers, lighting, guardrails and handrails, ensuring compliance with WorkSafe requirements and giving you complete peace of mind.

Custom built: Frame sizes can be tailored to your operation, including taller frames for multi-tier applications, so you get a solution that fits your warehouse perfectly.

Performance:

  • Floor load capacity up to 1,000 kg/m²

  • Floor spans up to 10 metres

When to choose a Rack Supported Mezzanine:

    • You want maximum storage density

    • Pallet racking is already central to your warehouse design

    • You need pallet storage and floor space combined in one solution

    • Budget efficiency is a priority

    • Open space beneath the mezzanine is not essential (racking frames act as the supports)

Rack Based Mezzanine FAQs

A rack based mezzanine floor is a type of raised storage structure in which the mezzanine deck is supported by pallet racking frames, rather than independent structural steel columns. In this system, the pallet racking serves a dual function: providing storage space for pallets at ground level and acting as the structural framework for the elevated floor above.

What makes a rack supported mezzanine different from other mezzanine floors?

The support columns are pallet racking frames rather than structural steel posts. This allows you to combine pallet storage below with a floor above — a dual-purpose solution.

Why would I choose a rack supported mezzanine over a free-standing mezzanine?

Rack supported mezzanines are generally more cost-effective and provide higher storage density. Free-standing mezzanines are better if you need open, column-free space below.

Does a rack supported mezzanine limit the space below the floor?

Yes. Since racking frames act as the support, you won’t have clear open space underneath. Instead, you gain efficient pallet storage in that footprint.

Can the mezzanine structure be changed later?

Yes — rack supported mezzanines are modular. You can extend, relocate, or reconfigure both the racking below and the floor above.

Is it safe to use racking as the support structure?

Absolutely — provided it’s engineered correctly. All rack supported mezzanines are designed and certified to Australian Standards, ensuring structural integrity and safety.
