Since 2019, Safer Storage Systems has proudly partnered with Gonvarri Material Handling (GMH) as the exclusive Australian supplier of GMH’s world-class, European-manufactured storage systems — with New Zealand added to our territory in 2022. This partnership enables businesses across the ANZ region to access premium steel pallet racking, shelving systems, and advanced automated storage machines, all backed by GMH’s long-standing global legacy in industrial innovation.
Our partnership with Gonvarri Material Handling goes far beyond distribution rights. At its core, it’s a shared vision rooted in innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence. By combining GMH’s global engineering capabilities with our local manufacturing, consultative design approach, and deep knowledge of the ANZ market, we deliver tailored solutions that drive performance, reduce environmental impact, and meet precise compliance requirements.
In June, we had the pleasure of hosting Brian Howson, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Automation Division – Manager International Division at GMH, as part of his ongoing engagement with our local team.
Our shared commitment to excellence was front and centre during Brian’s eighth visit to Australia. He spent valuable time on the ground with our team, immersing himself in the day-to-day operations and observing how our approach continues to deliver value. He emphasised the importance of seeing work happen where it truly matters — referencing ‘Gemba’, a Japanese term meaning the actual place where value is created. This hands-on perspective allows global insights to be applied in practical, meaningful ways and ensures our alignment goes beyond words and into real action.

A key strength of our relationship with GMH is the open, two-way exchange of knowledge and experience. During the visit, Brian praised our full-service delivery model and the use of data in our design process. For us, this approach is standard practice — designing solutions based on what customers actually need, not simply what’s available off the shelf. For GMH, it’s a clear example of their own values brought to life.
Our local manufacturing capability continues to be a major advantage. By manufacturing our pallet racking in Australia, we reduce environmental impact, speed up project delivery, and meet the nuanced needs of local customers. As Brian observed, proximity to market, combined with deep compliance knowledge, isn’t just efficient — it’s responsible. “It’s the right thing to do,” he noted.
Throughout the visit, there was a strong sense of alignment — not just in systems and processes, but in values. From our safety-first mindset and high production standards to the integrity and professionalism of our people, Brian commented on the strength of our culture. “Good, honest people who care about doing things the right way — that’s what alignment looks like,” he said.
When asked how our Silverline® manufacturing compares to GMH’s global benchmarks, Brian was quick to commend the quality and capabilities of our operation. “The calibre of the people and equipment speaks volumes.”
Reflecting on the partnership, Brian described working with Safer Storage Systems as seamless and built on trust. Across all levels, from leadership to frontline operations, he has observed consistent professionalism, a collaborative spirit, and a genuine commitment to doing things well. “Matt and Tony are highly respected leaders, and that culture of integrity is reflected throughout the business. Everything runs smoothly with consistent, reliable performance.”
Looking ahead, Brian is enthusiastic about what’s next. His vision for the GMH–SSS partnership is one of continued growth, deeper collaboration, and keeping the customer at the heart of everything. “You’re selling what the customer actually needs — not just what’s sitting in a container. That’s a big deal,” adds Brian.
We’re proud of the partnership we’ve built with Gonvarri Material Handling — and grateful for the insight, collaboration, and integrity Brian brings with every visit. Together, we’re not just meeting global standards. We’re setting them.
