After outgrowing their two Melbourne warehouses, Abrasiflex saw an opportunity to consolidate all of their storage needs in one, much larger warehouse of 2,200m2. The extra space would offer greater flexibility for future growth and bring all of their Melbourne assets under one roof.
This project involved planning and installing a racking solution for the new premises, as well as removing any racking and restoring the flooring at the two locations to be vacated.
With warehouses in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Adelaide, Abrasiflex is one of Australia’s leading suppliers of industrial abrasive products and solutions. The business stocks and distributes their own range of abrasive blasting media, equipment and spare parts, as well as partially manufacturing/converting other brands of abrasive products. These products are also supplied to original equipment manufacturers (OEM), wholesalers, trades, distributors and re-sellers right across the country.
The brand new 2,200m2 warehouse in Dandenong’s new Logis Estate offered Abrasiflex the much-needed space to house its large product range, plus additional room around the racking for packing and future growth. This was also a fantastic opportunity to develop a racking system around the specific needs of the business.
New Warehouse Layout For Abrasiflex
With a particular plan for the shelving already in mind, Abrasiflex engaged with Safer Storage Systems to carry out the project, refine any layout issues and ensure the racking adhered to Australian Safety Standard AS 4084-2012.
The storage solution required a large amount of manual picking levels for smaller products as well as capacity to store items on pallets. To ensure an even amount of space was dedicated to all storage needs, the bulk storage was located above the picking levels to allow for easy replenishment of stock below.
Our design team worked closely with Abrasiflex to produce a robust solution that met the safety requirements and overall budget set.
Using new premium, heavy duty SSS Racking and selected second hand materials, Safer Storage Systems was able to provide and install a cost-effective and durable pallet racking system that has capacity to accommodate a 12 tonne load per bay.
Warehouse Make-good
For the two warehouses Abrasiflex had vacated, Safer Storage Systems removed the existing racking systems, ready for handover back to their landlords.
The Results
The newly installed system at the Logis Estate site has now created an efficient flow for traffic moving in and around the racking, as well as increased the number of pallet and product locations for the business. This has had a direct, and positive impact on the day-to-day warehouse functions.
